Assoc. Prof. Dr. Samorn Hirunpaditkoon, together with a research team from the Faculty of Engineering, Naresuan University, has successfully developed eco-friendly packaging design using leaves to replace foam containers. Among other leaves tested in laboratory, bastard teak leaves were found to be best suited for replacing foam containers due to its high resistance value; the material is capable of containing hot food without any leakages.

Phitsanulok Provincial Governor, Mr. Supachai Iamsuwan, in cooperation with the Community Forest Network Association of Phisanulok and the 39th Military Circle, have decided to promote bastard leave containers for food distribution offered to mourners who will flock in the royal cremation ceremony for the late King Rama IX.  The province aims to produce 9,101 eco-friendly containers within 1 month starting from this 1 September 2017. Once finished, all the packages will be sent to the Bureau of the Royal Household on October 6, 2017.
