Energy And Climate Change: EC

Since 2002, the University has supported a policy of using Energy Label No. 5 electric devices. If some divisions need to change to a new device, these should also have the Energy Label No. 5. Computer devices should be the Energy Star type which has been a requirement since 2003.

The University encourages all areas of the University to use bio diesel, biomass and solar power, which is managed by the School of Renewable Energy which is responsible for research into the energy resouce, and distribution thoughout the campus. In addition, there is an application of solar energy designed for buildings with a PV roof.

Electric Buses Program
[21 View Date: 2015-10-26]

As Naresuan University currently has a large number of staff and students, and many visitors to the campus, there are many vehicles on the roads within the campus. This causes slower transportation, bad traffic conditions and pollution. These badly affect the environment within the campus. To address these problems, NU has proposed a project called “Green Transit” which includes the “Electric Bus Transportation Program” to serve staff, students and visitors to the campus. This will reduce the problems being experienced and will create a better environment by reducing pollution. The program includes two bus routes around the campus, designated the Red Line and the Yellow Line. Shuttle buses will run every 3-5 minutes and the entire round trip takes 15 minutes on average.

In order to preserve energy and enhance the environment, the University has a plan for supporting the transportation policy that is environmentally sensitive. The plan consists of a program called “NU Green Transit : 500 Free Bicycles for Borrowing”. Together with the objectives of reducing pollution and saving energy within the campus, this program also has the objective of enhancing the health and improving the well-being of the riders.

The University has a plan to change the buildings on the campus to be “Green Buildings” which will have natural air cooling and air flow. The NU Green Building program has been held for 4 phrases as follows: Phrase 1: NU Green Building Model Scheme for the Office of the President, NU Library, and NU Dome. Phrase 2: NU Green Building Model Scheme for the Faculty of Humanities buildings, the Faculty of Business, Economic and Communication buildings, and NU Dorm. Phrase 3: NU Green Building Model Scheme for the CITCOMS building, NUIC buildings, Faculty of Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Environment buildings. •In 2014, the 4th Phrase will include the Faculty of Law buildings, Faculty of Education buildings, and Faculty of Social Science buildings. Some buildings also contain a structure of Green Building Model including : •Faculty of Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Environment buildings: Apply natural air and wind flows. •NU SERT: Apply light from solar energy within the building. •Faculty of Allied Health Science: Prevention from environmental effects such as waste management, reduction of pollution from construction, smell and smoke eliminating systems, and waste water eliminating system. •Faculty of Humanities buildings: Apply the prevention to environment such as waste management, reduction of pollution from construction, smell and smoke eliminating system, and waste water eliminating system, as well as apply the environment control within the buildings such as filter films or using air conditioning at 25°C. In addition, some divisions such as the Division of Central Administration, Personal Management Division, and the Office of the President have identified energy saving policy which indicate time periods for turning on and off the air conditioning.

In order to save energy and the environment, the University has proposed the environmentally friendly policy “NU Green Transit : 500 Free Bicycles for Borrowing”. The objectives are to reduce pollution, save energy and solve air pollution problems within the campus, as well as bringing health benefits and well-being to bicycle riders. To reduce the use of personal vehicles there is a program to campaign for using electric buses and bicycles offered within the campus instead of isomg personal vehicles. The University will also accelerates the increase in the number and size of the electric bus in order to be sufficient to meet the demand from the staff and students. The number of bicycles will be increased, too. Bike Lanes for bicycles will also be created.
